Michael Kulla (born December 27, 1960 in Herne ) is a German flotilla admiral . He is deployed in the Cyber ​​and Information Room Command .

Training and first uses

Kulla joined the German Navy with Crew VII / 80 and was trained as an officer at the Mürwik Naval School . From 1981 to 1985 he studied economics and organizational sciences at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg and obtained his degree in business administration . This was followed by training as a marine security officer and then, from 1987 to 1991, assignments as platoon leader and company commander in Kiel and Tarp . In 1992 Kulla joined the Military Counter-Intelligence Service (MAD) and was employed as an investigative officer in MAD position 44 in Mainz until 1993 .

Service as a staff officer

After completing the 35th admiralty staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr from 1993 to 1995 , Kulla's first assignment was as a staff officer in counter-espionage at the MAD office in Cologne . He was then deployed from 1997 to 1998 in an integrated assignment at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons ( Belgium ). From 1998 to 1999 he was commander of the 3rd Marine Security Battalion in Seeth . This was followed by a position as a speaker in the department Org 5 / KS in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Bonn, which oversees the MAD . 2003 Kulla took over the management of Dezernats counterintelligence in the MAD office in Cologne. In this post, Kulla was temporarily deployed in 2005 as MAD head of the German ISAF contingent in Mazar-e Sharif ( Afghanistan ). From 2006 to 2007 he was group leader for central information processing, from 2007 to 2009 group leader for IT information processing in the MAD office in Cologne. After that, Kulla worked as a department head in the MAD office (counter-espionage and operational shielding, then central tasks), later (2015-2017) in the strategic intelligence command (operations department).

Service as an admiral

On June 1, 2017, Kulla took over the post of Vice President of the Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD) from Brigadier General Joachim Smola and was promoted to Flotilla Admiral shortly thereafter. In July 2019, he again handed this post to Colonel Frank Utzerath . In October 2019, Kulla succeeded Flotilla Admiral Stefan Pauly as Assistant Chief of Staff J2 at Allied Joint Force Command Naples , Italy . Kulla has been used in the Cyber ​​and Information Room Command since July 2020.
