Michael Töngi
Michael Töngi (born March 16, 1967 in Sursee ; resident in Kriens and Engelberg ) is a Swiss politician ( Greens ). He has been a member of the National Council since March 2018 .
biography
Michael Töngi attended primary school in Kriens and the canton school Alpenquai in Lucerne . He then studied at the Universities of Basel and Lucerne . He completed his studies with a degree in Swiss history, German linguistics and literary studies and modern general history at the University of Basel. He then worked as a secretary for the Green Canton of Lucerne and as an editor in the regional section of the Neue Luzerner Zeitung .
From 2003 to 2011 Töngi worked for the German-speaking tenants 'association and from 2011 to 2018 he was general secretary of the Swiss tenants' association . He is currently a board member there, as well as in the Swiss Transport Club .
Töngi lives with his partner in Kriens.

Töngi began his political career in the residents 'council of Kriens, to which he was a member from 1990 to 2001 (1999-2000 as president of the residents' council). From 2004 to 2008 he was Co-President of the Green Canton of Lucerne and from 2007 to 2018 a member of the Lucerne Cantonal Council . In 2015 he ran for the government council of the canton of Lucerne, but was not elected.
In the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2015 , Töngi came on the list of the Greens behind the elected Louis Schelbert, the first substitute for a member of the National Council. When Schelbert resigned for reasons of age, Töngi took over his successor and was sworn in as a national councilor on March 12, 2018. In this function he is a member of the Business Audit Commission and the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications.
Töngi's political priorities include advocating environmentally friendly mobility and a “housing policy that creates more affordable housing”.
