Michael Thomas (* 1962 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actor .

Life

Michael Thomas was born the son of the actress Tilla Hohenfels and the actor Fred Weis. The two played in the Simpl cabaret and toured the German-speaking area with the Wiener Werkel group . Michael Thomas partly traveled with his parents on their tours through Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland, partly he grew up with his grandparents on a farm in the Waldviertel . At the age of fifteen he went on a trip around the world and worked in various jobs. After returning to Vienna, he attended the Krauss drama school .

Theater, boxing

At the beginning of his career he mainly played theater, around the age of 17 in The Financial Genius by Honoré de Balzac at the side of Horst Tappert on a tour through Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In the 1987-88 season he played with George Frederick and Johannes Krisch at Vienna's Theater beim Auersperg in class enemy of Nigel Williams .

From 1988 he appeared for twenty summer seasons at the Karl May Festival in Staatz , Gföhl , Weitensfeld im Gurktal and Dasing . The then director Paul Roberts cast him for the role of Old Shatterhand on the side of Gerhard Rühmkorf as Winnetou. In the course of this he completed his training as a stuntman and learned various fighting techniques such as fencing, sword fighting, karate and boxing. In boxing he was twice vice state champion in the heavyweight division .

Movie and TV

His entry into television took place with roles in the television series Derrick and Tom Turbo . In 2007 the filmmaker Ulrich Seidl cast him in Import Export for the role of Paul's stepfather. The role was not initially in the script and was only developed during the casting process. Since then Michael Thomas has mainly worked for film and television. He played the role of Leo in the TV series Braunschlag in 2012, and played Hans Hofer in the series CopStories .

In 2013 Ulrich Seidl cast him in Paradise: Hope as a sports coach. In 2017 he was again in front of the camera for the feature film Böse Spiele , directed by Ulrich Seidl, alongside Georg Friedrich , where the two played a pair of brothers. In the Tatort episode Die goldene Zeit , premiered at the Hamburg Film Festival in 2019 , he had a leading role as Kiez veteran Michael Lübke, known as "Eisen-Lübke", an old friend of investigator Thorsten Falke .

Directing, private matters

In 2011 he made the feature film Across the Mile , which he directed and for which he also wrote the screenplay. His son Marvin Fred Colorado (civil Marvin Weis), who comes from a 20-year marriage with the actress and singer Dagmar Hellberg , played the leading role.

Singer

As a singer, Michael Thomas was mainly on stage in musicals and gala shows. A unique excursion into the world of opera took him to La Scala in Milan , where he appeared on stage in 1995 in The Magic Flute , directed by Roberto De Simone and the musical direction of Riccardo Muti . Muti wanted an " Elvis-like " singer for the production .
