The Ministry of the Interior and Europe of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , based in Schwerin, is one of eight ministries of the state administration. The current incumbent is Lorenz Caffier ( CDU ), he is supported by Thomas Lenz as State Secretary.
history
After the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was founded in 1945, there were initially no traditional ministries, but departments subordinate to the president or vice-president. The Department of General and Internal Administration was initially responsible for internal affairs, from which the Ministry of Internal Administration and Planning emerged in 1946 . In 1948 this was renamed the Ministry of Internal Administration . From 1949 it then operated as the Ministry of the Interior and existed as this until the state was dissolved in 1952.
With the re-establishment of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1990, a Ministry of the Interior was set up again under this name. In 2006, as the Ministry of the Interior and Sport, it received the “Sport” division. In 2016, it was instead assigned the area of "European affairs" and has had its current name ever since.
