Right in the middle is a music album by the group Pur , released in 2000 . It was the group's twelfth album and the first to be released on the major EMI Electrola label.

Creation and publication

In August 1998 Pur had completed the tour for their album Mächtig viel Theater . The tracks for the new album Mittendrin were created between autumn 1998 and spring 2000, with most of the tracks recorded in the band's own recording studio in Bietigheim . Pur had left the EMI sub-label Intercord in 1999 and switched to EMI Electrola. The production of the album was no longer taken over by Dieter Falk , but by the band members themselves.

With eagles should fly , a song was released on the album that had already been announced in the press in October 1999. The song was written on behalf of RTL for the DSV ski jumpers. It was premiered at the New Year's competition on January 1, 2000 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and broadcast live on television. The title was part of a marketing offensive by the broadcaster RTL, which from 2000 had the broadcast rights for the most important competitions in ski jumping and flying for three years. Adler shall fly was released as a single on January 3, 2000 and reached number 9 in the German charts. Dieter Thoma can be seen in the music video for the single . Advance sales for the new album tour began shortly after the single was released, also in January 2000. The Stuttgarter Zeitung commented: “At the moment you are still buying a pig in a poke. Because so far only the single 'Adler shall fly' is known from the new CD. "

On August 7, 2000, the single Herzbeben was released from the album in advance and reached number 4 in the German single charts. At the beginning of October 2000 Pur went on a promotional tour for the new album, the first appearance taking place in Munich; further stations were Frankfurt, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin and Leipzig. On September 11, 2000, the new album came out, which had already reached platinum status through pre-orders and went straight to number 1 in the German album charts.

On October 14, 2000, Pur presented their new album on Wetten, dass ..? in front. From October 27 to December 23, 2000 the group went on an album tour under the title Mittendrin - Pur Tour 2000 , which took them to various German cities and at the beginning of November to Basel and Zurich. A special feature of the concert stage of the tour was that the group performed on a circular stage with several floors in the middle of the auditorium, analogous to the album title. She was supported in her show by the Brazilian-German artist group Tarantula . With two sold-out concerts in the Kölnarena (18,037 spectators each), Pur set a new German hall concert record. On December 1, 2000, a video about the tour was released under the title Mittendrin and a lot around it .

"Most of the songs on the new album are rocky, but not too rocky, are direct, but not too direct, are written in such a way that they could call malicious people honest, although 'honest' is much better," wrote the Stuttgarter Zeitung . The Nordkurier criticized the lack of musical creativity, so “they somehow cloned themselves, at least their earlier hits. [...] Pure seems to lack the courage to conquer the radio stations with a different style. ”“ The new album is teeming with unproblematic pop songs ”, stated the Leipziger Volkszeitung . The Sächsische Zeitung gave a similar verdict: “As usual, Pur build a bridge between ambitious Schlager and German rock.” Die Welt described Mittendrin as “sinistre [s] work…” with “holterdiepolter forged rhymes without any meaning” and “student band chords without a hint of rock'n'roll. "

Awards

Right in the middle of it received double platinum in Germany and achieved gold status in Switzerland. In 2001, Pur won an echo for Mittendrin in the “National Group of the Year” category.
