Mix Markt is a supermarket chain in Germany and other Western European countries that specializes in the distribution of fresh produce and groceries for Central and Eastern European kitchens . The company offers an assortment that consists of food and food specialties from various, mostly Eastern European countries, as well as everyday products.
history
The first store was opened in 1997 in Oerlinghausen ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It was based on the idea of Artur Steinhauer (* 1959), Peter Schuju (* 1966) and Waldemar Völker (1949–2009) to offer shopping opportunities for people from the former Eastern Bloc living in Germany with a coordinated range of products.
Conception
Essentially, the concept of a mix market differs from conventional grocery stores in the specific composition of the range and in a mix of the usual forms of distribution (discount, super, wholesale and specialty market). The target group are customers who process fresh food (fish, vegetables, meat) in large quantities themselves and thus also want to save costs on processing or who are interested in country kitchens from Central and Eastern Europe.
In the markets, groceries are sometimes offered in relatively large packaging that is otherwise more common in wholesale markets , e.g. B. Potatoes or onions in 10-20 kg bags. Fresh fish is mostly sold unfilled, and meat is "slaughtered" in larger pieces and only cut to size on request.
range
About 40% of the assortment consists of fresh food (meat, fish, fruit, vegetables), 50% smoked (fish sausage), canned food (vegetables, fish , fruit products and salads), frozen foods, dairy products, beverages and alcoholic drinks . The remaining 10% consists of gift items, Russian jewelry and housewares, such as the Mantowarka and Mangal cooking appliances, which are common in Eastern Europe .
Due to the conception and the target group, food specialties from Poland , the Baltic States ( Estonia , Latvia and Lithuania ), Russia , Ukraine , Moldova , Kazakhstan , Transcaucasia ( Armenia , Georgia and Azerbaijan ), Hungary , the Balkans ( Bulgaria , Romania , Serbia , Slovenia ) and Turkey . However, more than half of all articles sold come from Germany. In particular, food that is used in the respective country kitchens of Central and Eastern Europe is taken into account. These include:
- Fish products such as cod liver , caviar , salt herring, and stockfish ;
- Dairy products such as kefir , kumys and ryashenka ;
- Ice cream, such as plombir , eskimo;
- Pasta such as baranki , khinkali , manti , pelmeni , pierogi and vareniki ;
- specially seasoned pickled vegetables and salt mushrooms ;
- Beverages such as birch sap , kvass , Krimsekt , Armenian brandy , Georgian and Moldovan wines;
- Berry and cereal products such as buckwheat , cranberries and sea buckthorn berries .
- Meat and sausage products made from horse meat , and Eastern European cuisine
