The Mood-Tour (own case: MOOD TOUR ) is a Germany-wide action program in the form of a relay Bicycle Tour for de-stigmatization of depression as a disease. The name "Mood" is a play on words and describes the English word for mood and sounds like the German word courage . The patrons of the event are the German Depression Aid Foundation and the German Depression League . The ride-sharing program is designed by the ADFC .

The action

The core of the Mood Tour campaign is a relay ride . Passengers who have experienced depression as well as those who are not affected drive tandems around Germany every two years . On the sidelines of the journey, information and ride-sharing campaigns take place in many cities in Germany.

There are also accompanying activities: exhibitions on the MOOD TOUR, information events at secondary schools and scientific evaluation of the campaign.

“This idea convinced me right from the start, because the Mood Tour combines two essential elements of our foundation work. On the one hand, it creates an offer for those affected. On the other hand, it can succeed in pushing the social taboo away from the subject of depression a step further. "

- Theresa Enke, Chairwoman of the Robert Enke Foundation

Mood tours were u. a. Ideally supported by the German Depression League , the German Depression Aid Foundation and the ADFC and financially by the AOK , the Barmer GEK , the Robert Enke Foundation, the Foundation for the Promotion of the Health Care System, the German Pension Insurance Association , the Willy Robert Pitzer Foundation.

"I was happy to take over the patronage for the cycling section of the 'Mood Tour 2012' because it makes sense to support people with depression experience through sport."

Mood Tuor 2012

The first Mood Tour took place between June 14th and September 15th 2012. Seven groups with more than 30 participants drove through Germany in seven stages, including 21 people with experience of depression. In addition, over 450 passengers were counted who accompanied the tour on individual days. 33 days of action were carried out around the tour. This is where the actual public relations work took place, which met with extraordinary media interest. 165 press reports in regional and national media reported on the tour and thus contributed to a more open way of dealing with the depression. Among other things, a 10-minute talk show "Views" on Radio Bremen on March 19, 2013 reported about it.

The first stage starts in Freiburg im Breisgau and ended in Bensheim . The second stage led from Bensheim to Kempten . The highlight of the third stage from Kempten to Nuremberg was the reception of the group in Regensburg . The event with folk festival character and samba band, which was organized by the local AOK, opened with a speech by Mayor Joachim Wolbergs , who pointed out that there are 7,000 people in Regensburg alone who suffered from depression. The fourth stage starts in Nuremberg and ended in Leipzig .
