Iron Mountain is a small town (with the status " City ") in St. Louis County in the US -amerikanischen State Minnesota . In 2010 Mountain Iron had 2869 inhabitants.

Mountain Iron is part of the Quad Cities Minnesota with the neighboring cities of Virginia , Eveleth and Gilbert .

The city calls itself the "Taconite Capital of the World" because of the taconite mined here , which is extracted in the local Minntac mine belonging to the United States Steel Corporation .
