San Ignacio Cerro Gordo is a municipality in the Mexican state of Jalisco in the Altos Sur region . The municipality had 17,626 inhabitants at the 2010 census; the area of the municipality is 228.1 km². The municipality was created in 2007 by splitting off from the municipality Arandas .
The largest place in the municipality and administrative seat is the eponymous San Ignacio Cerro Gordo , other places with more than 500 inhabitants are Los Dolores , La Trinidad and San Vicente . The municipality comprises a total of 74 localities.
The municipality of San Ignacio Cerro Gordo borders on the municipalities of Tepatitlán de Morelos , San Miguel el Alto , Atotonilco el Alto and Arandas .
The municipal area is on average around 2000 m above sea level. 60% of the area is used for agriculture.
