Tomatlán is a municipality in the Mexican state of Jalisco in the Costa Norte region . The municipality had 35,050 inhabitants at the 2010 census; the area of ​​the municipality is 3023.6 km².

The largest place in the municipality and administrative seat is the Tomatlán of the same name , other places with at least 1500 inhabitants are José María Morelos , Campo Acosta , José María Pino Suárez and La Cruz de Loreto . The municipality comprises a total of 186 localities.

The municipality of Tomatlán borders the municipalities Cabo Corrientes , Talpa de Allende , Cuautla , Ayutla , Villa Purificación and La Huerta as well as the Pacific .

The municipality is largely flat with a 45 km long coastline. In the northeast it is part of the Sierra Volcánica Transversal , where heights between 600  m and 2100  m are reached. Almost 70% of the community area is forested, 13% is pasture for livestock, and another 7% is used for arable farming.
