Guadalajara is a municipality in the Mexican state Jalisco in the Región Centro . The municipality had 1,495,189 inhabitants at the 2010 census; the area of the municipality is 151.6 km².
In addition to the metropolis of Guadalajara , which is the administrative seat of the municipality and the capital of the state of Jalisco, there are several other small towns in the municipality. The municipality is located in the center of the Zona Metropolitana de Guadalajara with over four million inhabitants and is about 92% urbanized. In the northeast of the municipality there is a zone of original deciduous forest.
The municipality of Guadalajara borders the municipalities of Ixtlahuacán del Río , Zapotlanejo , Tonalá , Tlaquepaque and Zapopan .
The municipality is in large parts flat to slightly hilly.
