Zapotlanejo is a municipality in the Mexican state of Jalisco in the Región Centro . The municipality had 63,636 inhabitants at the 2010 census; the area of the municipality is 720.8 km².
The largest city in the municipality and administrative center is the eponymous Zapotlanejo , other places with more than 1,500 inhabitants are La Laja , Santa Fe and Matatlán . The municipality comprises a total of 200 localities.
The municipality of Zapotlanejo borders on the municipalities of Ixtlahuacán del Río , Cuquío , Acatic , Tepatitlán de Morelos , Tototlán , Zapotlán del Rey , Juanacatlán , Tonalá and Guadalajara .
The municipal area is on average around 1600 m above sea level. Around half of the area is forested, around 40% of the area is used for agriculture.
