NTW Plus , NTV Plus or NTV + ( Russian: НТВ-Плюс ) is a Russian joint-stock company that operates in the field of digital satellite television . NTV Plus is the brand name for the broadcast via satellite pay TV of NTV . The satellite programs are broadcast via Eutelsat satellite W4 at 36.0 ° E and with Bonus 1 at 56.0 ° E. NTW Plus was the first satellite television operator in Russia . Operations began on September 1, 1996.

organization

NTW Plus belongs to the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom through a chain of parent companies : NTW Plus belongs to NTW , this belongs to Gazprom-Media , which in turn belongs to Gazprombank , which ultimately belongs to Gazprom, which is majority-owned by the Russian state. As the largest NTW shareholder (2001: 46%), Gazprom also has control over NTW Plus.

NTW Plus was originally founded as a private TV broadcaster in 1996 by Wladimir Gussinski as part of his nested media empire Media-Most Holding (Russian Медиа-Мост ). In 1996 Gussinski had received the license for a nationwide full-time broadcaster, after he had already operated local television stations from 1993. The costly development of NTW Plus and the Russian financial crisis of 1998/99 brought Media-Most Holding such high losses that Gussinski had to agree to the entry of the financially strong Gazprom company into NTW (and thus NTW Plus).

Media-Most, founded in 1997, has been owned by Gazprom since 2000.

“In November 2000 Gazprom obtained 25% of the shares in Media-Most and a 16% stake in NTW for a $ 211 million loan, bringing its stake in NTW to 46%. At the same time, Gazprom received 19 percent of Gussinski's personal share as security. Due to a court decision, Gussinski was no longer allowed to use this 19% in any shareholder decision, which meant he lost control of the company. "

The financial distress of NTW was partly caused by the political development of the media landscape in Russia. Since Vladimir Putin's inauguration in 2000, Russian politics has severely curtailed the financial leeway and thus the freedom of the mass media. Among other things, the costs for the transmission infrastructure for private broadcasters were increased by about three times and the "restructuring of broadcasting" decided by the Russian Ministry of Information - a reorganization of licensing - deprived independent radio and television stations of their livelihood. In addition, in September 2000, President Putin issued the "Doctrine on Information Security of the Russian Federation" (Russian: "Доктрина информационной безопасности Российской Федерации" ), which, according to the media, has to unlaw the security of the Russian Federation against the security of the Russian Federation threaten.

NTW Plus is one of the largest satellite TV operators in Russia. The company's turnover in 2009 was 7.85 billion rubles and the net profit was 707 million rubles. The company has 1000 employees. The company headquarters are in Moscow. Currently (July 2010) Dimitrij Samochin (Russian Дмитрий Самохин) is the general director. The company's motto is: "digital satellite television".

NTV Plus BV (Netherlands) is a subsidiary of NTV-Plus.

Company history

In July 1996, the creation of the first satellite television operator in Russia began. The first broadcast began on September 1, with the analogue, terrestrial broadcast of the Nasche Kino channel (Russian Наше кино / Russian for our cinema ). Nasche Kino was NTW Plus' first channel - an in-house production of NTW Plus. By the end of 1996 the operator had gained 17,000 subscribers. From the beginning of 1997 the programs of NTW Plus were broadcast coded. At the end of the year, the company had 133,000 subscribers for its four channels: Nasche Kino , Mir Kino (Russian Мир кино / Russian for world of cinema ), NTW Plus Sport and Detski Mir (Russian Детский мир / Russian for children's world ).

From November 22, 1998, satellite broadcasting from the newly built broadcasting complex in Skolkowo near Moscow began. In February 1999, NTW Plus switched from analogue to digital program broadcasting. This made it possible to increase the number of programs broadcast from 5 to 50 (30?). In December 1999, the re-broadcasting of foreign digital channels was added, which were broadcast in two languages: Fox Kids, Discovery Russia and Animal Planet - broadcast in Russian and English, Euronews - broadcast in English and French.

In January 2000 the channels Discovery-Adventure, Sci-Trek and Civilization began broadcasting in Russian and English. On May 25, 2000, another Eutelsat W4 satellite was launched. This became the main platform for the programs of NTW Plus and it also allowed the broadcasting area, and thus the broadcasting range, to be increased. In November 2000 NTW Plus received the TEFI (Russian ТЭФИ ) award . This Russian Television Award from the Russian Academy of Television is awarded annually on Russian television. From January to May 2002, instead of the TV channel TW-6 in Moscow, the programs of the channel NTW Plus Sport were broadcast on the sixth channel . This was done at the request of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Printing Technology, TV-radio broadcasts and mass communication (russ. Министерства Российской Федерации по делам печати, телерадиовещания и средств массовых коммуникаций in short, МПТР . / Dt MPTR) - Today, the Federal Agency for Print and Mass Communications ( Russian Федеральное агентство по печати и массовым коммуникациям ; in short: Роспечать / Rospetschat).

In May 2002, the company's economic security department was founded, the main task of which was to fight the “ pirates ” who illegally transmit or receive the encrypted program, which is subject to a fee, unencrypted. From October 1st, 2002, there were two new cinema channels: Premiere and Kinoklub . On October 4th, NTW Plus received the top prize at the Hot Bird TV Awards for its sports channel NTV Plus Football . On March 19, 2003, the first trial against channel pirates began. In Belyov (Tula Oblast) the board of directors of a local cable network provider was threatened with five years imprisonment because they had illegally broadcast the NTW Plus channels in their network.

By late 2003, the company had 260,000 subscribers. 2004 began broadcasting the channels NTW Plus Sport Online and hit movie . There were 360,000 subscribers at the end of the year. The company went to self-financing - it was in the black.

In 2005 the channels Nasche nowoe Kino (russ. Наше новое кино / russ. For our new cinema ) and Kinosojus (russ. Киносоюз ) were added. In October 2005 the audio signal of some channels was switched to Dolby Digital 5.1.

In 2006 the channels NTW Plus Tennis , NTW Plus Nasch Futbol and NTW Plus Sport Klassika began broadcasting . Towards the end of the year, the number of subscribers surpassed the 500,000 mark. In March 2006, the satellite Bonum 1 began broadcasting - NTW's own satellite, which broadcasts to Siberia and the Far East. The program package NTW Plus Vostok (NTW Plus East) was specially put together for this purpose. In April 2007 the first program package in Russia with HDTV channels was put together. The package included: HD Kino, HD Sport and HD Life. In September 2008 the Kinodrom service and the family package were introduced. On November 14, 2008, the company received a special award at the Hot Bird TV Awards for the most dynamically developing company in the industry.

From October 2008, NTW Plus began broadcasting programs for Ukraine. For this purpose, a program package with 28 channels was put together, which included the foreign versions of Russian TV channels.

Sport Plus began broadcasting on September 1, 2009 . The Kino Plus channel was set up in October 2009 . This channel, like the Sport Plus channel , was fed into Russia's cable networks to advertise the company's own company. The company has also been offering Internet television since February 2010, and live broadcasts of sporting events can be viewed on the company's website. On May 22nd, 2009, NTW Plus will be the first television company in Russia to broadcast a direct broadcast of a sports event in stereoscopic format (3D TV). The TV station's subscribers and visitors to the “Oktober” cinema run by the cinema operator KARO-Film were able to see the final of the UEFA Champions League of the 2010/2010 season between Bayern and Inter in 3D. For the near future, NTW Plus plans to set up its own 3D channel.
