The neck is a 227.3  m above sea level. NHN high basalt knoll near Gudensberg in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district .

Geographical location

The neck is part of the Gudensberg domed threshold ( natural subunit 343.24) in the West Hessian depression (natural main unit 343). It is located about 1 km west of the Gudensberg core town, about just as far east of the village and Gudensberg district Dorla and about 750 m north of the Gudensberg district Obervorschütz .

The federal motorway 49 and the state road L 3150 run parallel to each other around 150 m and 100 m respectively to the north . Immediately to the northwest, the district road K 80 coming from Dorla crosses the A 49 and joins the L 3150; From there, a farm and bicycle path leads eastwards past the neck to Gudensberg.

FHH protection

The small, surrounded by fields located dome has a geological feature on a very rare horizontal basalt columns running, and is part of the 327.43 hectares, consisting of seven unrelated hilltops Fauna Flora Habitat type region Gudensberger basalt hills and forest on Falkenstein (FFH No. 4721-304).

The steppe fennel , which is quite rare in Germany and has been classified in hazard category 3 (= endangered) in Germany since 1996, grows on the semi- arid grassland covering the hilltop ; the neck is the only location of this plant in the Schwalm-Eder district and one of only two locations in the Kassel administrative district . The dry grassland is maintained by regular grazing in spring and autumn and, if necessary, by de-pilling . The pioneer vegetation on the silicate rocks is protected and preserved by removing shading elements.

Kaiser Wilhelm I monument

There are scattered trees around the edge of the hill. In its center stands an obelisk about two meters high, erected on September 23, 1879, on a three-tiered base . He recalls the visit of the emperor Wilhelm I a year earlier , who on September 23, 1878, several months after his serious injury in the fourth assassination attempt on him (June 2, 1878), the final parade of the XI. Army corps with imperial maneuvers carried out in the area between Fritzlar and Wabern rather than two, as usual, but with three divisions . The memorial donated by the then Fritzlar district and private individuals bears a plaque with the inscription:

The neck is a popular hiking destination and offers a wide view of the surroundings, especially to the south and west. The "Gudensberger Panoramaweg", a total of 21 km long sporty circular hiking trail to lookout points on seven Gudensberg mountains, leads to the neck, among other things.
