The Tavrida National V.i. Vernadsky University ( Ukrainian Таврійський національний університет імені В.І. Вернадського (ТНУ) ; Russian . Таврический национальный университет им В. И. Вернадского ) is a university in Simferopol on the peninsula of Crimea .
The college was founded in 1918 as the Tauride National University in Crimea. In 1921 it was renamed after Michail Wassiljewitsch Frunze , a military leader during the Russian civil war , from 1972 as the State M. W. Frunze University of Simferopol , since 1999 in the current name after the namesake Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky ( Ukrainian Vernadskyj ), the first rector. The university has 16 faculties, over 60 chairs and 20 scientific institutes.
