National research program
In Switzerland , a national research program (NFP; programmes nationaux de recherche ; programmi nazionali di ricerca ) is a coordinated research program supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation to solve urgent problems of national importance. The topics of the NFP are specified by the Federal Council . They relate to important problems of the present.
The National Research Programs, together with the National Research Priorities (NCCR), are the most important instruments of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
The NFPs last six to seven years and are each endowed with 10 to 20 million Swiss francs .
They are problem-oriented, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary and each coordinate several research projects and groups with a common overall goal. An NFP places particular emphasis on the implementation of the scientific results in practice.
