The Hainesch / Iland nature reserve is located in Hamburg between the Sasel and Bergstedt districts . The area has an area of 71 hectares and was placed under protection by ordinance of January 7, 1975.
The Saselbek , which is dammed at the Bergstedter Alten Mühle (now a café and restaurant), and the Furtbek flow through the recreation area .
The kingfisher , which is highly endangered in Germany and therefore strictly protected , has its most important population here in Hamburg. Its breeding ground is on the rugged, steep slopes of the Saselbek, in which it digs deep caves.
