Heimberg nature reserve (Bestwig)

The Heimberg nature reserve with a size of 13.43  hectares is located southwest of Halbeswig in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. The NSG consists of two areas. In the urban area of ​​Brilon there is a Heimberg nature reserve of the same name .

Area description

The NSG is a forest area. The forest consists mostly of beeches . In the southern sub-area 51 ° 19 ′ 21 ″  N , 8 ° 21 ′ 55 ″  E there are numerous flat diabase rocks .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forest area with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
