Himerk / Wettstein nature reserve

The Himerk / Wettstein nature reserve with a size of 5.5 hectares is located southwest of Ramsbeck in the municipality of Bestwig . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Bestwig landscape plan. The NSG consists of two areas.

Area description

The NSG is a forest area made of beech . In the northern part of the area there is the 6 high Wettstein rock and many smaller rocks.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forest area with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
