Wildenburg nature reserve
The nature reserve Wildenburg was named after the castle ruins of the same name near Kempfeld in the Idarwald ridge in the Hunsrück ( Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park ) and is part of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park .
The nature reserve stretches along an elongated, wall-like mountain ridge, covers an area of 25.12 hectares and is located in the districts of the local communities Veitsrodt and Kempfeld ( Verbandsgemeinde Herrstein ) in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Birkenfeld . It was placed under nature protection in 1940 under the name "Wildenburg und Umgebung" and is now registered under the number NSG-7134-083. On the ridge, which consists mainly of Taunus quartzite , primeval oak and beech vegetation has developed in the frequent debris heaps. From the observation tower of the Wildenburg you can see the area well.
