The source area of ​​the Idarbach nature reserve is located in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 10 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1987 , extends southwest of the local community Allenbach . The Idarbach has its source in this area . The state road L 164 runs along the southern edge of the area , not far to the east are the B 269 and the B 422 .

The purpose of the protection is to preserve the source region of the Idarbach as a heavily swamped site of rare wild plants and plant communities that are threatened with their population.
