Nes ( Russian Несь ) is a village (Selo) in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Russia with 339 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). The place is located in a restricted area and may only be entered with the permission of the FSB .

geography

Nes is about 380 km as the crow flies southwest of Narjan-Mar , the administrative center of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The place is located on the right bank of the eponymous river Nes , about 20 km before its confluence with the Mesenbusen of the Barents Sea .

As to the administrative division, Nes belongs to the Sapolyarny rajon . It is also the administrative seat of the municipality of Kaninski selsowet , which includes Nes and the villages of Tschischa and Mgla.

history

The place emerged as a fishing settlement in the second half of the 18th century and was first mentioned by name in the book Puteschestwija Iwana Lepjochina w 1772 godu (German Travels Iwan Lepjochins in 1772 ). In 1830 the place consisted of seven farms.

Until 1903 Nes was part of the Dorogorskaja wolost des Mesenski ujesd . From 1903 to 1924 Nes was the administrative center of the Nesskaya volost . From 1924 Nes belonged to Kanino-Tschoschskaja samojedskaja wolost . In the course of an administrative reform in 1929, the Wolost was transformed into the Kanino-Timanski rajon and from 1934 belonged to the Nenezki nazionalny okrug . With the dissolution of the Rajon in 1959, the administration of the place was carried out by the Nesski selsowet , whose administrative center was Nes.

Since 2005, Nes has been part of the Sapoljarny rajon as the center of Kaninski selsowet .

Infrastructure

The place has basic educational facilities (kindergarten, middle school, boarding school), a small hospital, a library, a cultural center, a post office, a diesel power station, a bakery and various shops.

Economy and Transport

There is no industry in Nes. The population is mainly engaged in fishing and reindeer herding.

There are no year-round motorable roads to Nes. About one kilometer west of the town there is a small airport with regular connections to Arkhangelsk and Naryan-Mar. In the ice-free months, goods are also transported by sea.

Restricted area

Like much of the Sapoljarny rajon, Nes belongs to the so-called border zone ( Пограничная зона ) of the Russian Federation. In these areas, access is regulated for both Russians and foreigners. Permits to enter these areas are issued by the FSB.
