Geographical location

Nowy Kraków is seven kilometers south of Darłowo and eighteen kilometers northwest of the district town of Sławno on a side road that connects the state road 37 ( Karwice ( Karwitz ) - Darłowo) at Słowino ( Schlawin ) with Jeżyce ( Altenhagen ). There is a rail connection via the Wiekowo ( Alt Wiek ) and Karwice stations on the PKP line 202 ( Stargard ( Stargard in Pomerania ) - Gdańsk ( Danzig )).

Place name

New Krakow is named in contrast to the town of Alt Krakow (now in Polish: Stary Kraków), which is also located in the Schlawer area and was formerly only called "Krakow". - In Poland, the place name Nowy Kraków occurs again in the Greater Poland Voivodeship .

history

In contrast to Old Krakow, New Krakow was not indicative of a village before 1945, but of a forest district. The forestry office, which was built in the mid-1930s in half-timbered construction, was located on the western edge of the almost 5000 hectare forest region, which was then known as the Neu Krakow State Forest . As early as 1828 it was a state forest ranger's office. It was responsible for the six district foresters: Buckow (municipality See Buckow - Bukowo Morskie), Damshagen (Domasławice), Göritz (Gorzyca), Neuenhagen, Abtei (Jeżyczki) (municipality Pirbstow - Przystawy), Schlawin (Słowino) and Vosshagen (Zagórzyn) (municipality Damshagen - Domasławice).

To the north of Neu Krakow was the Altenhagen colony (Kolonia Jeżyce), which arose after the Stein-Hardenberg reforms . The inhabitants ran smaller farms with part-time jobs in the state forest.

Both places and the Plath (Büdnerhof) residential area were part of the Altenhagen (Jeżyce) community before 1945 .

After 1945 the Altenhagen colony was first given the Polish name Nowy Kraków, which then also bore the Polish name Kolonia Jeżyce. Today the place, in which 25 inhabitants are registered, is only called Nowy Kraków and belongs to the Gmina Darłowo in the Powiat Sławieński of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship (1975-1998 Köslin Voivodeship ).

church

Before 1945 Neu Krakow belonged to the Protestant parish Petershagen (Pęciszewko) in the parish of Rügenwalde in the church province of Pomerania of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . In 1940 there were parishioners in 1863, and the last German clergyman was Pastor Franz Schroeder.

Since 1945 Nowy Kraków has been part of the Catholic parish Jeżyce ( Altenhagen ) in the Deanery Darłowo in the Diocese of Köslin-Kolberg of the Catholic Church in Poland .

school

Before 1945, the Altenhagen colony had its own elementary school.
