The Augarten Porcelain Manufactory is a Viennese porcelain manufacturer ; It was founded in its current form in 1923.

It is named after the Augarten , the park in which its manufactory buildings ( Augarten Castle and an extension built in the Second Republic ) are neighbors of the Augarten Palace of the Vienna Boys' Choir .

meaning

In terms of art-historical importance, Augarten Porzellan is comparable to Meissen and the Nymphenburg porcelain factory . The pieces are made by hand in the factory in the 2nd district of Vienna, Leopoldstadt . Augarten products are the most expensive Austrian porcelain and are also used for state purposes such as the Hofburg , the Federal Chancellery and Austrian embassies, as well as state gifts. The product range includes vases , food, tea and coffee services , figurines, lamps and gifts. The designs come from different eras and include different motifs. In addition to chinoiseries , flower bouquets, hunting and nature motifs, classicism, Biedermeier, Art Déco and modern styles are available.

history

After the end of the Danube monarchy and the stabilization of the post-war economy, the “Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten” ( Augarten A.-G. ) was opened in Augarten Castle on May 2, 1923, in the presence of Federal President Michael Hainisch . The company refers to the tradition of the former Viennese porcelain factory , which closed in 1864, and uses some of its designs.

The Art Deco was very popular at that time and the products were by artists such as Francis of Zülow , Josef Hoffmann , Michael Powolny and Ida Schwetz-Lehmann designed. The manufactory continues to produce tried and tested items from all ages. Artists such as Friedrich Ludwig Berzeviczy-Pallavicini , Thomas Feichtner , Walter Bosse , Yu Feng, Joseph Nigg , Gottfried Palatin , Ena Rottenberg , Claudia Stuhlhofer Mayr and Robert Ullmann always create new designs.

In 2003 - after the factory closed due to bankruptcy and the entire staff was dismissed - the company VMS Value Management Services GmbH of the renovator Erhard Grossnigg bought the bankruptcy estate and thus founded a new company called Neue Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten . The Augarten porcelain factory is the only investment (besides the Linz football club Lask ) that Grossnigg is making “out of pure passion and without interest in profit”.

The Porcelain Museum in Augarten has been located in a side wing since 2011 .

In 2014 the manufactory issued the world's first porcelain postage stamp in collaboration with Austrian Post .

The blue label is stamped on every Augarten product. In addition, each porcelain object is given a painter, decor and shape number.

Branches

Augarten has branches in Vienna, Linz and Salzburg. The castle itself is open to the public. Visitors can gain an insight into the production methods of Augarten porcelain on daily tours. In the newly designed porcelain museum, visitors can experience the history of Viennese porcelain through representative exhibits. The products are not only in demand in Austria, they are also popular with the Japanese . In the flagship store at Spiegelgasse 3 there is an extra Japanese customer advisor. In Tokyo Imperial Palace Augarten porcelain was also spotted.
