Newark [ ˈnuːɚk ] (also New Worke ) is a city in the US state of Delaware , United States , with 31,454 inhabitants (2010 census), 15 km west of Wilmington, Delaware . Newark is home to the University of Delaware , the largest university in the state of Delaware.

economy

In addition to large companies such as DuPont and WL Gore & Associates, there was a Chrysler vehicle plant until the end of 2008 , which Newark Assembly plans to produce, for example, the popular Dodge Durango SUVs . This was closed as part of the restructuring measures at Chrysler at the end of 2008, with the most recent loss of 1,100 jobs.

Sports

From 2013 to 2018 Newark was the seat of the basketball team Delaware 87ers (2013-2018) in the NBA G-League .
