history
For the first time in 1753 the area was released for settlement by Governor Benning Wentworth . However, the outbreak of the Seven Years' War in North America prevented settlement. So it was reassigned, and in 1766 families from Worcester County, Massachusetts came and settled in Newfane.
Originally the main settlement was Newfane Hill , but it was too difficult for the residents of the town to reach the administration buildings in winter, so a small settlement at the foot of the hill became the new main settlement. Initially known as Parks Flat also Parkville , named after Jonathan Park, an early settler of the town who donated land so that the administration buildings could be built there, the settlement in Fayetteville was renamed after Marquis de Lafayette in 1825 . Finally in Newfane in 1882.
The Village Newfane was granted independent rights in 1907.
