Nikita Dmitrijewitsch Masepin ( Russian: Никита Дмитриевич Мазепин , English spelling Nikita Mazepin; born March 2, 1999 in Moscow ) is a Russian automobile racing driver . In 2018 he started in the GP3 series , which he finished as runner-up. Mazepin has been competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship since 2019 .

Career

Masepin began his motorsport career in karting in 2011 , where he was active until 2014. Among other things, he came second in the CIK-FIA World Kart Championship in 2014. At the end of 2014 Masepin made his debut in formula racing and took part in the season opener of the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 2014/15. He already achieved a podium finish in the second race. He completed his first full motorsport season in early 2015 for ETEC Motorsport in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand. With an eighth place as the best result, he was 18th in the drivers' championship. Masepin then returned to Europe and drove for Josef Kaufmann Racing in the northern European Formula Renault . While his teammate Louis Delétraz won the championship, Masepin achieved twelfth overall with a third place as the best result. He also made seven guest starts for Josef Kaufmann Racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup .

In 2016 Masepin switched to HitechGP in the European Formula 3 championship . He finished the season in 20th overall, while his teammate George Russell was third overall. In addition, he was included in the driver squad of the Formula 1 team Force India . He worked regularly in the simulator for the racing team and was involved in the test program. In 2017 Masepin will contest his second season in the European Formula 3 championship together with HitechGP.

Masepin is the son of Russian businessman Dmitri Masepin , one of the owners of Uralchem .
