Nikki Butterfield (* 19th April 1982 in Brisbane as Nikki Egyed ) is a former triathlete and cyclist from Australia .

Career

Nikki Egyed has been a professional triathlete since 2001 and became Australian Junior Champion in the same year. In December 2003 she became triathlon U23 world champion in New Zealand and team world champion in Tiszaújváros together with Mirinda Carfrae and Pip Taylor . In 2005 she became the Australian long distance champion and finished fifth at the world long distance championships.

As a result, she initially turned her back on triathlon and concentrated on cycling for four years until 2009. In the 2006 Women's Tour de France , Nikki Butterfield wore the green jersey of the winner in the points classification . Although she was not nominated for participation in the UCI Road World Championships in 2006, she was part of the Australian team at the UCI Road World Championships in Stuttgart in 2007 and in Varese in 2008 . At the Geelong World Cup 2007 she finished third behind Nicole Cooke and Oenone Wood , she won five races in Europe, and she was on the podium at two Australian championships.

A hoped-for nomination for the Olympic Games in Beijing did not come because the Australian Association questioned a full recovery from an operation for an endofibrosis of the external pelvic artery . After she was again not considered for the World Cup in 2009 despite top placements, she withdrew from professional cycling. At the same time, Nikki Butterfield completed a degree in finance , which she completed as an MBA in 2010 .

After the birth of her daughter in December 2010, she started again in triathlon competitions. In November 2011 she was fourth at the ITU World Championship on the long distance. In 2012 she won the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon on the long distance .

In the 2013 season there was a second break from competition because of the birth of her son in January 2014. Since 2015 she has not appeared internationally.

Nikki Butterfield is married to the triathlete Tyler Butterfield (* 1983).
