Nils Assersson since 1612 Mannersköld (* 1586 in Vastergotland , † the 30th March 1655 in Adelsnäs, Östergötland County ), was a Swedish colonel .

Life

Nils was a son of Assar Pedersson and Ingrid Germundsdotter. It was 1612 when Mannersköld in the Swedish nobility collected and 1,627 in the nobility of the Swedish knighthood introduces (no. 128). His first marriage was to Christina Bökler and his second marriage to Anna Wrangel († 1681). Both marriages resulted in a total of nine daughters and one son. Through his daughters Sidonia Gyllenstierna (1620–1656) and Christina Vellingk († after 1670) he was the grandfather of the Swedish baron and field marshal Nils Gyllenstierna (1648–1720) and the Swedish counts and generals Otto Vellingk (1649–1708) and Mauritz Vellingk ( 1651-1727). The noble family Mannersköld , which he donated , died out with its grandchildren in 1690 in the male line .

Career

Nils Assersson began his career in the Swedish army as a cornet in the Uppland regiment. In 1609 he was chamber councilor in the service of Johann, Duke of Östergötland, and in 1611 he advanced to Rittmeister . After his ennoblement , he received his ancestral estate Näs (Adelsnäs) in Östergötland in 1613 , where he had a manor house and other buildings built.

Mannersköld switched to the Östgöta cavalry regiment in Livonia in 1618 , where he was promoted to colonel and regiment chief in 1625 . King Gustav Adolf cloned him there the estate Lemburg with Muremoise, Drewenshof and Siebertmoise. He must have owned Lennewarden there too . He took part in the last phase of the war in Livonia and was able to distinguish himself in the Battle of Wallhof, which was victorious for Sweden in 1626. In the same year he became Governor of Ingermanland and governor over Narva , Ivangorod , Jama , Caporie and Nöteborg . In the position of governor of Ingermanland, where he also owned the Gesterlina estate not far from Jama, he remained until 1643, but was also governor in Dorpat in 1633 and governor general in Swedish Livonia until 1634.

From the beginning of 1644 Mannersköld Landshövding or Governor in Älvsborgs län and commander in Gothenburg , which he successfully defended in the Torstensson War. Towards the end of 1645 he was also Häradshövding in Väne. Mannersköld received his farewell in 1648 and retired to his family estate for the rest of his life. He was buried in the old church in Åtvids, where an epitaph with a coat of arms has been preserved, which mentions his defense of Gothenburg and some donations from him and his second wife to the church there.
