Nino des Buissonnets (born July 24, 2001) is a formerly internationally successful show jumping horse of the Selle Français breed .

He was ridden by the Swiss world class rider Steve Guerdat and is owned by Urs Schwarzenbach .

ancestry

In the stallion line of Nino des Buissonnets' descent, there are sires of various European sport horse breeds. Nino des Buissonnet's father, the Dutch stallion Kannan , was a show jumping horse under Michel Hécart himself . Together with Kannan, Hécart represented France several times in Nations Cups and was French champion in 2005. The Furioso II, descended from the thoroughbred Furioso xx, was a Selle Français like Nino des Buissonnets, but was stationed in Germany. Furioso II left behind a very large number of licensed sons, among them For Pleasure, who is highly successful in show jumping .

On the dam line, the Nino des Buissonnets descent is strongly influenced by French. Almé Z is one of his best-known ancestors of this line . He was initially stationed in France, where several top stallions were among his offspring, before he influenced Zangersheid horse breeding at Léon Melchior's stud .

First years of life

Nino des Buissonnet's mother was considered stubborn, she was not broken into, but used directly in breeding. As a colt called an ugly duckling by his breeder Jean-Luc Deroubaix, he was, like his mother, self-confident and stubborn. Nino des Buissonnets was broken into and trained at the Haras des Princes stud near Calais , during which time he was neutered.

Sports

Nino des Buissonnets was used as a horse for fast-paced jumping competitions in France at a young age, before he was bought by Manfred Marschall from Baden-Württemberg for his son Marcel. Under Marshal's rider Tim Hoster, Nino had his first international successes.

At the end of 2010 the gelding was bought by Thomas Fuchs for Urs Schwarzenbach and has been ridden by Steve Guerdat since then .

In the 2011/2012 World Cup season, Guerdat and Nino des Buissonnets achieved top 3 placements in Lyon and Bordeaux. Guerdat qualified for the World Cup final in 's-Hertogenbosch , where he jumped to second place with Nino des Buissonnets.

At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , the gelding became Olympic champion under Guerdat. He was the only horse to fail in both rounds of the individual finals.

The World Cup starts in 2013 and 2014 were highly successful: After Guerdat and Nino des Buissonnets finished second in the World Cup competitions in Oslo, Helsinki and Stuttgart in autumn / winter 2013, they won in Helsinki the following year. They came third in Oslo and Stuttgart.

In May 2015, Steve Guerdat and Nino des Buissonnets won the Grand Prix of the La Baule Nations Cup. However, this victory was revoked after Nino des Buissonnets tested positive for the banned substances codeine and morphine . The Secretary General of the FEI pointed out that the samples contained oripavin , which is not found in any veterinary product. Positive results regularly come from the digestion of opium poppy seeds . This was confirmed. Nino des Buissonnets will not be able to participate in tournaments until September 19, 2015. The FEI signed final declarations on September 18, 2015, in which Guerdat was acquitted of any guilt of intent or negligence (main article: Steve Guerdat # ban ).

Four years after London, Nino des Buissonnets was again Steve Guerdat's Olympic horse. At the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , both were again without mistakes in both rounds of the individual finals. In the subsequent jump-off, an obstacle error prevented a podium placement, it was fourth place in the individual ranking. As a result, Guerdat announced that this was the last championship for Nino des Buissonnets.

After the Olympic Games, Nino des Buissonnets was only used in two smaller international tournaments in preparation for his last tournament: Guerdat last competed at the CHI Geneva in December 2016. The goal was for Nino des Buissonnets to end his career at its peak. In the Geneva Grand Prix, Steve Guerdat and Nino des Buissonnets made it into the jump-off, so there was a chance of a repeat of last year's victory. However, Guerdat chose the line to the second obstacle too diagonally, so it was refused , both ended the course with eight penalty points. After the test, riders and the audience said goodbye to Nino des Buissonnets from the sport.
