The Zwickauer Nordvorstadt is part of the Zwickau district , which has been the district town of the Zwickau district in the Free State of Saxony since 2008 . The district adjoins the city center to the north. The northern suburb is located in the Zwickau-Mitte district and has the official number 15.
Geographical location
In the north, the northern suburb borders on the Pölbitz district , with which it is structurally connected. To the east, the northern suburb borders the Zwickauer Mulde . In the south of the district south of Kolpingstrasse ( Bundesstrasse 175 ), further parts of the Zwickau district are located, including the city center . To the west is the Marienthal district .
history
To the south of the district in the area of Osterweihstrasse (district Mitte-Nord) lies the village of Osterweih , which later fell into desolation and is considered the origin of the city of Zwickau.
In terms of development, the north suburb is a continuation of the Zwickau district center-north. It consists of a clearly structured and predominantly grid-based neighborhood development, predominantly from the Wilhelminian era .
The Moritzkirche in the district was first mentioned in 1212. It was destroyed during the Hussite Wars and the Thirty Years War . The church was consecrated again in 1680 and completely renovated in 1871. Between 1880 and 1890, the district and with it the parish experienced an enormous increase in population in the course of the Zwickau coal mining . The number of members of the Moritzkirche parish almost doubled from 5,000 to 9,000 people during this time. As a result, a new church was built not far from the old church, which was consecrated on December 3, 1893.
