Northport is a town in Waldo County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 1520 inhabitants in 1162 households on an area of 90.62 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Northport has a total area of 90.62 km², of which 61.59 km² is land and 29.03 km² is made up of water .
Geographical location
Northport is located in the southwest of Waldo County on Penobscot Bay in the Atlantic Ocean . The area is bordered by Pitcher Pond to the south and Knight Pond to the east . The surface is slightly hilly, the 227 m high Patterson Hill is the highest point in the town.

history
Northport was settled before the American Revolution . However, the first settlers had to give up their settlement as they were called into the army a short time later. Only after the peace was the settlement of the area resumed and on February 13, 1796 Northport was organized as a town. Before that, part of the area belonged to the Ducktrap Plantation, also called Little Duck Trap.
In the war of 1812 the British plundered the settlements in Northport starting from Castine.
