history

Northport was settled before the American Revolution . However, the first settlers had to give up their settlement as they were called into the army a short time later. Only after the peace was the settlement of the area resumed and on February 13, 1796 Northport was organized as a town. Before that, part of the area belonged to the Ducktrap Plantation, also called Little Duck Trap.

In the war of 1812 the British plundered the settlements in Northport starting from Castine.
