Liberty is a town in Waldo County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 913 people lived there in 718 households, in the United States holiday homes are also counted as households, on an area of 73.56 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Liberty has a total area of 73.56 km², of which 67.34 km² is land and 6.22 km² is made up of water .
Geographical location
Liberty is located in southeast Waldo County and borders Knox County . Several lakes are in the area, the largest being St. George Lake in the north and Stevens Pond in the east. The surface is slightly hilly, the 267 m high Bolen Hill is the highest point in the area.

history
The Liberty area was under the grant of the Waldo patent , previously the Muscongus patent. The area was settled from 1800. On January 31, 1827 Liberty was organized as a town. The area previously belonged to the Montville Plantation. Parts of Montville were added in 1876.
There were large apple orchards and fertile farmland in Liberty. Liberty Village had an axes maker, a foundry, five sawmills, and a flour mill. There were also other craftsmen who made tools for agriculture such as rakes, saddles or boots and shoes.

The Maine State Route 220 runs north to south through the area. It is crossed by Maine State Route 3 .
Public facilities
There are no medical facilities in Liberty. The closest are in Belfast.
The Ivan O. Davis - Liberty Library is located in Liberty . In 1993 it was decided to set up a library in the town and in 1995 a committee was formed for that library. Ivan O. Davis offered the town the use of the Hunt Tannery's "old wage shed". The Hunt Tannery was an important enterprise in the town from 1800 to 1915. It was opened in September 1996. The neighboring Montville also got involved in the library from 1998, so that the residents of Montville can also use the library. The library moved to its current location in the old fire department building in 2002.
