The Gmina Kisielice [ kʲiɕɛˈlʲit͡sɛ ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Iławski of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the city of the same name ( German Freystadt in West Prussia ) with about 2100 inhabitants.

geography

Map of the municipality

The municipality is located in the west of the voivodeship. Its western tip is the triangle with the Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeships . Kwidzyn (Marienwerder) is about 20 kilometers northwest, Grudziądz (Graudenz) 30 kilometers southwest and the district town of Iława (Deutsch Eylau) eight kilometers east. Neighboring municipalities are Susz in the north, Iława in the east, Biskupiec in the south, Łasin in the south-west, Gardeja in the west and Prabuty in the north-west.

There are a number of lakes in the area, the four largest of which range in area from 85 to 300 hectares . The Gardęga (Gardenga) river , a tributary of the Osa (Ossa), flows through the main town of the municipality. This has an area of 172.8 km², 72 percent of which is used for agriculture and 12 percent for forestry.

history

The rural community was re-established in 1973 after being divided into Gromadas from 1954 to 1972 . In the years from 1959 to 1975 their area belonged to the powiat Iławski , which was dissolved in 1975. It belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship from 1946 to 1975 and then to the Elbląg Voivodeship until 1998 . The city rights were granted again in 1986. Urban and rural parishes were united to form urban and rural parishes in 1990/1991. On January 1, 1999, the community came back to the powiat Iławski and the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship, which was newly formed and roughly corresponds to the Polish part of the former East Prussia province .
