The main railway station Novosibirsk ( Russian Новосибирск-Главный , Novosibirsk Glawny ) is an important railway junction in the same West Siberian metropolis in the south of Russia . It was opened in 1893 as part of the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway .
history
Opening and first building
The construction of the Ob railway station - as Novosibirsk was called at the time - on the right bank of the river of the same name began in October 1893. The official opening took place with a special trip to the Bolotnaya railway station on December 1, 1894. The station building was expanded by two floors in 1906 and 1904 Adjoining house extended. The station operated under the name Novonikolajewsk from 1909 before it was given its current name in 1926.
New building in the style of constructivism
In 1929, the Moscow Architecture Society organized a design competition for the new station building on behalf of the Omsk Railway Administration. The striking building was to be rebuilt in the style of constructivism . The planning phase was completed in 1931 in coordination with a city commission, the Kiev Gipotrains and several architects. The imposing arch structure of the central hall was designed by the engineer Nikolai Nikitin . The operation of the new station was approved by a state commission on January 25, 1939.
Development in recent years
In 2005 a S-Bahn station was opened south of the main reception building. Access is via the station forecourt, Shamshurin Street and the Ploshchad Garina-Michailowskowo underground station of the Novosibirsk Metro . Since 2011 this can also be reached by means of a bridge over the railway and Vladimiroskaya Street.
Connection
Long-distance transport
Until the end of 2013, a weekly direct connection with through coaches between Novosibirsk and Berlin Zoologischer Garten was offered. The approximately 5000 kilometers long route was considered to be one of the longest train connections in Europe.
