Ober-Kinzig is a district of the city of Bad König in the Odenwaldkreis in southern Hesse . It covers an area of ​​658.20 hectares , 178 hectares of which are forested. Mayor is Peter Krebs ( Greens ) as of November 2018 .

Geographical location

Ober-Kinzig is located in the northern Odenwald northwest of Bad König in the upper Kinziger valley . Nearby is the Roman Villa Haselburg , a Roman villa rustica from the 2nd century AD, which is one of the largest rediscovered Roman non-military facilities behind the Limes . The district also includes Gumpersberg , a hamlet on the east side of the mountain range called Böllsteiner Höhe , and the district of Mittel-Kinzig , which is located downhill from the Kinzig region .

history

Ober-Kinzig is mentioned as "Chinciheru marcu" in a deed of gift to Seligenstadt at the end of the 9th century AD. Around 1400 it was called Obere Kintzege and in 1424 Oberkintzbich. From the 15th to the 18th century there was an iron and copper works in Ober-Kinzig. There was a dispute between the taverns of Erbach (1478) and between Löwenstein and Erbach (around 1700) about their use . Lime and clay were also extracted in Ober-Kinzig, as can still be seen today in the town's lime kilns and a brick factory.

Ober-Kinzig belonged to the district court and the parish of Kirchbrombach as part of the Breuberg rule . In 1806 the place came with the county of Erbach to the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

On May 1, 1951, Ober-Kinzig expanded by incorporating the neighboring communities of Mittel-Kinzig and Gumpersberg . In the run-up to the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Ober-Kinzig was incorporated into the municipality of Bad König on October 1, 1971 on a voluntary basis (from October 10, 1980 city). According to the main statute, a local district with a local advisory council and a local mayor was established for Ober-Kinzig .

Culture

In Ober-Kinzig there is a protected court yard , in the vicinity of which a cellar vault with a round arched sandstone portal has been preserved, which bears the year 1554 in the arched forehead.
