The parish village of Oberferrieden is a district and parish village of the municipality of Burgthann in the central Franconian district of Nürnberger Land .
history
Church building
With the community edict (1808) Oberferrieden became a politically independent community, to which the places Bachmühle , Heinleinshof and Rübleinshof belonged. On January 1, 1972, this was incorporated into Burgthann as part of the Bavarian regional reform .
Second World War
During the Second World War , Oberferrieden was largely destroyed. Soldiers of the 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division "Götz von Berlichingen" had holed up in the village on their retreat to the south and tried to stop the advance of American troops. Requests from the population to move on and protect the village from fire were refused. Shortly before, the commander of the division had the mayor of Burgthann Andreas Fischer shot because he had hung up white cloths as a sign of surrender. The fighting lasted from April 18 to 20, 1945. Since the Americans, after high losses in house-to-house combat, had switched to bombarding Oberferrieden with phosphorus shells from a distance, most of the village burned down. After three days, the German soldiers moved on. The completely senseless fighting had killed an unknown but large number of American soldiers, three SS soldiers lay dead in the village and eight civilians were killed as a result of the fighting. Pastor Kurt Crämer buried her on April 25, 1945 in the cemetery. The basis of his funeral speech was Psalm 88: 14-16: “I cry out to you, Lord, and my prayer comes before you early: Why do you, Lord, cast off my soul and hide my face from me? I am miserable and near death from my youth; I suffer your horrors that I almost despair. ”As soon as possible the reconstruction of the village started. Above all, the pastor's wife, Emy Crämer, made lasting contributions. She organized building materials and means of transport, went to the authorities and obtained all sorts of support. For this service she was later awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.

Fallen memorial
In a niche in the wall that surrounds St. Mary's Church, there is a memorial to those who fell in the two world wars. It was inaugurated on September 10, 1922. In the base of the monument, 30 names of those killed in the First World War are carved with their place of origin, rank, date and place of death. A sarcophagus rests on the base. The years 1914 and 1918 can be seen on it, as well as a laurel wreath. In its circle it says: "THE COMMUNITIES OF OBERFERRIEDEN AND LINDELBURG YOUR PLEASURE. HEROES ". The monument is crowned by the very realistic depiction of a dying soldier. There are panels on the right and left of the wall niches. The names of 79 people are listed under the heading “TO REMEMBER THE FALLEN AND MISSING OF WORLD WAR 2”. These include the names of women who lost their lives during the war in Oberferrieden. The two linden trees that flank the monument today were planted in 1933 - as is customary in many places - on the occasion of Adolf Hitler's seizure of power. On every day of national mourning, the memorial is still the place of a commemoration.

religion
Evangelical parish of Oberferrieden
The Reformation was introduced in the Oberferrieden church district in 1528. This also made the Marienkirche Protestant, but kept its name to this day. The church itself dates from the 14th century, but its appearance has changed a lot after many renovations. The church is open every day from about 8 a.m. to sunset and invites you to say a silent prayer or light a candle at the candle table.
Next to the church is the parish hall, which was built in 1891 as a Protestant schoolhouse. The rectory, which was built in 1908, is also adjacent. It shows some Art Nouveau elements on the outside. The previous building, a half-timbered house with a high hipped roof, was built in 1717 and was in such a "penitential" condition that it had to be torn down and replaced by a new building. The parish office and the parish family's apartment are located in the rectory. The following districts belong to the parish:
A total of around 3,000 Protestant Christians live in the parish today.
