Obszarniki (German Abschermeningken , 1932-1945 Almental ) is a village in the northeast of the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , which belongs to the Gmina Banie Mazurskie ( Benkheim ) in the powiat Gołdapski ( Goldap district ).

Geographical location

Obszarniki is located northwest of Gołdap ( Goldap ) on a subordinate road that runs from the district town parallel to the Polish-Russian state border via Mażucie ( Masutschen ) and Żabin ( Klein Szabienen ) and Dąbrówka ( Dombrowken ) to Budry ( Buddern ) on Voivodship Road 650 . There is no rail connection.

history

The village formerly known as Abkermeningken was from 1874 an official village of an administrative district that until 1945 belonged to the Darkehmen district (1938–1946 Angerapp district ) in the Gumbinnen district of the Prussian province of East Prussia . In 1910, 297 inhabitants lived here, the number of which had increased to 366 by 1933.

On May 11, 1932, Abschermeningken was given the new name "Almetal" for political and ideological reasons. In 1939 the village had 298 inhabitants, almost all of whom had to leave their homeland in 1945 and the following years. Almental became Polish and changed its name - based on the one that was valid until 1938 - to "Obszarniki". Today it is incorporated into the Gmina Banie Mazurskie ( Benkheim ) in the powiat Gołdapski in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (1975-1998 Suwałki Voivodeship ).

District of Abschermeningken / Almental

Between 1874 and 1945, Abschermeningken was the seat and eponymous place of an administrative district that was formed on May 6, 1874 by eight rural communities or manor districts :

In 1939, the administrative district of Abschermeningken was renamed "District of Almental". On January 1, 1945, the five communities Almental, Gleisgarben, Krucken, Oberhofen and Peterkeim belonged to it.

Religions

Before 1945 the inhabitants of Abschermeningken / Almental were almost without exception of Protestant denomination. The village was in the parish of Kleszowen (since 1946 Kutusowo), today located directly behind the Polish-Russian border. It belonged to the Darkehmen church district (since 1946 in Russian: Osjorsk) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . The last German clergyman was Pastor Günther Warm .

Since 1945 the population of Obszarniki has been predominantly Catholic . The parish is now Żabin ( Little Szabienen ) in the Gołdap deanery in the Ełk ( Lyck ) diocese of the Catholic Church in Poland . Evangelical residents living here belong to the church in Węgorzewo ( Angerburg ), which is a branch church in the parish Giżycko ( Lötzen ) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .
