Engeln is a district of Bruchhausen-Vilsen in the Diepholz district in Lower Saxony . Until November 1, 2011, Engeln was an independent municipality with the four districts of Oerdinghausen, Scholen, Weseloh and Engeln, which then formed a new area of ​​Bruchhausen-Vilsen with Bruchhausen-Vilsen.

Engeln is located between the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park and the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park, roughly halfway between Bremen and Minden . It is 4 km from the eastbound federal highway 6 and 8 km from the eastern core town of Bruchhausen-Vilsen.

Waters

  • The Siede rises near Reihausen and then flows further south to Siedenburg and flows into the Große Aue .

On March 1, 1974, the previous communities of Oerdinghausen, Scholen and Weseloh were incorporated.

Before that, the four parishes belonged to the Scholen municipality, which was then dissolved.

Behlmer mill
  • The Behlmer Mühle is an octagonal, two-story gallery Dutchman . It was built by master miller Heusmann in 1876. In 1934 the mill was badly damaged after a hurricane. During the reconstruction a compass rose was put on instead of the harvester . In 1968 the mill was stopped and the three grinding aisles were removed. In 1988 the mill was completely renovated, with a new, operational grinder installed. In addition to a loom , other agricultural implements can also be seen in the mill .

The state road  202 running through the town leads east to federal road 6 and thus creates a connection to Bremen and Hanover . In a westerly direction, the L 202 runs via Affinghausen to Sulingen .

Rail transport

The next train station is Bassum train station in a north-westerly direction on the DB route Bremen– Osnabrück . It is about 20 km from Engeln - just as far as the train station in Syke, which is on the same route .
