Bruchhausen-Vilsen ( Low German : Brooksen-Vilsen ) [ fɪlzn̩ ] is a stain in the district of Diepholz in Lower Saxony . Bruchhausen-Vilsen is a state-approved climatic health resort as well as a member community and seat of the joint community of Bruchhausen-Vilsen .

Bruchhausen-Vilsen is located about 30 km south of Bremen , 100 km south-west of Hamburg and about 70 km north-west of Hanover .

history

Originally, Bruchhausen-Vilsen consisted of the three spots Mohr, Vilsen and Bruchhausen. Bruchhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1189, Vilsen in 1227. Bruchhausen was also called Altenbruchhausen in the past in order to distinguish it from Neubruchhausen , which is not far away . Bruchhausen is mentioned in the Topographia Braunschweig and Lüneburg from 1654/1658. In 1976 Bruchhausen-Vilsen was recognized as a climatic health resort . From 1983 to 1988 the Bruchhausen Festival took place every year at Whitsun in Bruchhausen-Vilsen .

Incorporation and new foundations of the patch

In 1870 Mohr and Bruchhausen were combined to form the community of Bruchhausen. The spots Bruchhausen and Vilsen were merged in 1929 to form the spots Bruchhausen-Vilsen. On March 1, 1974, the previously independent towns of Berxen , Homfeld and Wöpse were incorporated. Bruchhausen-Vilsen has been the administrative center of the joint community of Bruchhausen-Vilsen since 1974 . On November 1, 2011 Engeln and on November 1, 2016 Süstedt were not incorporated, but both times the Bruchhausen-Vilsen area was re-established.

Museums

The first museum railway in Germany, operated by the German Railway Association since 1966 , runs according to schedule on weekends from May 1st to October 3rd with historic vehicles from Bruchhausen-Vilsen to Asendorf. Nicholas trips on weekends in Advent are particularly popular with children . Exhibition rooms with exhibitions on various topics related to the small train , as well as the extensive vehicle collection (approx. 100 vehicles) can be visited on the operating days.

The St. Cyriakus Church in Vilsen is a Romanesque style church. It was first mentioned in a document in 1227 and belonged to the Heiligenberg monastery .

As a mill of the Premonstratensian monastery , the monastery mill in Heiligenberg was first documentedly mentioned by a miller in 1370. In 1543 the mill and the monastery passed into state ownership. In 1986 the mill was restored. After a renovation in 1996, a restaurant and a hotel with gallery rooms opened in the mill.

The Bruchmühlen watermill was the lower mill of the Heiligenberg monastery . It is located a few hundred meters from the upper mill. It was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1532. The creation of a massive foundation and the repair of the mill house took place in 1749. The mill has been privately owned by the Hüneke family since 1886. The waterwheel was restored in 1990/1991, until spring 1996 around three tons of grain were ground every day .

There is a windmill in Bruchhausen-Vilsen , namely the Behlmer Mühle in Engeln . Even after 2011, the other four windmills in the Bruchhausen-Vilsen municipality are not in the Bruchhausen-Vilsen area ( see Bruchhausen-Vilsen municipality # Windmühlen ).

In Bruchhausen-Vilsen there is a park ("Kurpark") where music events are regularly held. The park borders on the Vilser Holz. In honor of the doctor and botanist David Heinrich Hoppe , who was born in Vilsen and whose work was and is of supraregional importance, there is a bronze plaque in the spa gardens (size: 55 × 90 cm). It bears the following text:

A street was named after Hoppe, which runs parallel to the street Am Bürgerpark to the north of the Kleinbahn .

In 2007, a water adventure playground was set up near the small train station.

A rose festival takes place every year at the Heiligenberg forester's lodge within an area of ​​2.5 hectares, enclosed by a ring wall.

Scattered, sometimes somewhat hidden, across the municipality of Bruchhausen-Vilsen, there are a few very different sculptures and objects by artists from the region. These art objects are made from a wide variety of materials - bronze , metal and brick :

Natural monuments

On the edge and in the immediate vicinity of the spa park, the wild-growing orchid Broad-leaved Stendelwurz ( Epipactis helleborine ) blooms in large numbers every year from mid-July to mid-August .

There are five sports clubs in the municipality, the SV Bruchhausen-Vilsen as a pure football club, the TV Bruchhausen-Vilsen and the TSV Süsedt which offer several sports and the HSG Bruchhausen-Vilsen as a pure handball club. The Brokser Marriage Market in the last week of August is a fair with attractions such as the traditional stag auction . There is a cattle market on the last market day. The market is known throughout the north-west and, along with the Bremer Freimarkt, Oldenburger Kramermarkt and the Stoppelmarkt in Vechta, is the fourth largest folk festival in the region.
