Okaro White (born August 13, 1992 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American basketball player who is 2.03 m tall in the position of the power forward.

Career

At the age of ten, White moved to Clearwater , Florida with his two older siblings and parents . Previously interested in American football and athletics , the teenager was introduced to the sport of basketball by the coach of the basketball team at his local high school . Despite initial difficulties, White became the leader of his team over time and was named Pinellas County Player of the Year by the St. Petersburg Times in his senior year .

From 2010 to 2014 he played college basketball at Florida State University . In his senior year he scored 13.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. After he was not included in the 2014 NBA Draft , he first played for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Summer League . There scouts from Virtus Bologna became aware of him, who lured him into the Italian Serie A after no further NBA franchise offered him an offer to play in the NBA . The Forward signed a one-year contract in Bologna and began his professional career in Europe. At the end of the 2014/15 season he counted 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for Virtus. White refused a renewal of his contract and followed a renewed invitation to the NBA Summer League where he played some games for the Dallas Mavericks . For the 2015/16 season White decided to switch to the Greek Basket League and signed with Aris Saloniki . He also took part in the ULEB Eurocup with the first division team. White was one of the most outstanding players that season, not just for his team but in the entire league. In a total of 36 league games, he brought it to 13.89 points and 7.31 rebounds per game. At the end of the season he was voted into the Best Five Team and voted the most spectacular player of the season.

In the summer of 2016, White tried again in the Summer League. There he played for the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat . The latter signed the power forward on July 15, 2016. After six games in the preseason and shortly before the start of the 2016/17 season , White was released from the Heat. So he tried his hand at first in the NBA D-League and came under the Sioux Falls Skyforce . In January 2017, the Heat obtained the temporary special right for the obligation of a 16th player, which is granted by the NBA if the available players in the roster fall below the limit of 12. On January 17th, 2017, White signed a 10-day contract with the Heat. This was extended for a further ten days on January 27, 2017. During this period, the Forward was in ten games in the Heat roster, of which he was used in nine to help ensure that the Heat could win all of these ten games. On February 6, 2017, the Heat offered him a new contract that would bind him to them until the end of the following season. In order to free up the required space in the squad, Derrick Williams' contract was previously terminated .

At the beginning of February 2018 , White switched to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Luke Babbitt , but they subsequently released him from his contract and released him. As a free agent, White signed a 10 day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers in mid-March 2018 . This was extended following him until the end of the season. In the summer of 2018 , White spent his pre-season at the San Antonio Spurs , but could not recommend himself for a place in the Texans squad . At the end of November 2018 he was signed by the Washington Wizards , but released about a month later.
