Oldřich Svoboda (born January 28, 1967 in Hradec Králové , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey goalkeeper who played for many years in the top divisions in Europe and won the bronze medal with the Czechoslovak national team at the 1992 Winter Olympics . Since 2007 he has been president of HC Slavoj Český Krumlov, an amateur club of the regional league.
Career
Oldřich Svoboda comes from Hradec Králové , but began his career at the ASD Dukla Jihlava army sports club . In the 1986/87 season he was still a substitute goalkeeper of the club before he advanced to the goalkeeper in the 1987/88 season with 38 appearances. In the 1990/91 season he won the championship title of Czechoslovakia with Dukla .
In the course of the following season, the political changes in Eastern Europe gave him the opportunity to move to Western European countries. After the 1992 Winter Olympics, he was signed by TPS Turku from the Finnish SM-liiga and completed 15 games for the club. This was followed by two seasons with Reipas Lahti , but was also used in the second Finnish league with Hermes Kokkola . In 1994 he returned to the Czech Republic and played half a season each with Dukla Jihlava and HC Vítkovice . After the season he received a contract from HC České Budějovice , for which he played until 1999 in the Extraliga . He also took part with the club in the European Hockey League 1996/97 , where it reached the playoff quarter-finals.
In 1999 he moved to the Mosquitos Essen , which had previously made it to the German Ice Hockey League . With Radek Tóth was another Czech goalkeeper at the mosquitoes under contract, which came after an injury from Svoboda for the rest of the season are used. Svoboda returned to the Czech Republic in the summer of 2000 and was committed by HC Excalibur Znojemští Orli , where he replaced the previously rather unsuccessful Pavol Rybár as a regular goalkeeper. After two seasons, in which he reached the playoffs with the Adler , he received strong competition in the goalkeeper position from the 20-year-old Martin Altrichter , so that he only received two missions. Therefore, he decided to move and was committed by Molot-Prikamje Perm from the Russian Super League .
In 2003 he returned to his homeland and was signed by the Bílí Tygři Liberec as a regular goalkeeper. A year later, in the summer of 2004, he received the offer to work in his father-in-law's company, which manufactures glass facades, among other things, and decided to end his career. In 2007 he was elected president of the ice hockey club HC Slavoj in his current home in Český Krumlov .
