Date: July 8, 1912
Ray Ewry , who had dominated the standing jump competitions in the previous games , had retired from active competitive sports. His Olympic record was not reached here.
After the first attempt, Ben Adams was ahead of his brother Platt and the Greek Konstantinos Tsiklitiras. The second round brought no change. In the last attempt of the pre-match, the Greek took the lead and Platt Adams took second place in front of his brother Ben. In the final only Platt Adams could improve his distance. However, he only came within an inch of Tsklitiras, so that the ranking was no longer changed.
Konstantinos Tsiklitiras won the only athletics medal in Greece at these games.
