Malta took part in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow with a delegation of eight athletes. For the first time a woman was represented among them. It was Malta's seventh participation in the Summer Olympics. The marksman Frans Chetcuti was chosen as the standard bearer at the opening ceremony.
