Vietnam took part in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow with a delegation of 30 athletes (22 men and 8 women) in 31 competitions in four sports. None of the athletes managed to win a medal. It was Vietnam's first participation in the Olympic Games. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the swimmer Nguyễn Mạnh Tuấn .
