The men's alpine skiing downhill at the 1976 Winter Olympics was held on February 5 on Patscherkofel . The difference in altitude between the start and finish was 870 meters and was 3.020 kilometers long.

The Austrian Franz Klammer , who was already the winner of the World Cup race on Patscherkofel in January, was able to secure the Olympic victory. The Swiss Bernhard Russi won the silver medal ahead of Herbert Plank from Italy.
