The Gmina Gniew [ ɡɲef ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Tczewski of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the small town of the same name ( German Mewe ) with about 6800 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the former West Prussia in the valley of the lower Vistula , 60 kilometers southeast of Gdansk and 30 kilometers north of Grudziądz (Graudenz) .
The municipal area with an area of 194.78 km² extends to the left of the Vistula and is crossed from north to south by the state road Droga krajowa 1 . The Wierzyca (heel) also belongs to the waters .
history
After the First World War , the area was ceded to Poland in 1920 and it was part of the Polish Corridor .
The municipality belonged to the Gdansk Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998 .
