Oras Schandossow (economist)

Oras Äliuly Schandossow ( Kazakh Ораз Әлиұлы Жандосов , Russian Ораз Алиевич Жандосов / Oras Alijewitsch Schandossow ; born October 26, 1961 in Alma-Ata , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh politician and economist .

Life

Oras Schandossow was born in Alma-Ata in 1961. He graduated from Lomonosov University in Moscow in 1987 .

He began his professional career at the Kazakh Academy of Sciences , where he conducted research at the Institute of Economics between 1987 and 1991. After Kazakhstan's independence, he was an advisor and finally deputy head of an advisory board to the Higher Economic Council under the President of Kazakhstan. Between February 1993 and January 1996 he was chairman of the National Agency for Foreign Investment and first deputy minister of economy of Kazakhstan. In January 1996 he was appointed President of the Kazakh National Bank . After two years at the head of the National Bank, he was replaced by Qadyrshan Demitov in February 1998replaced and instead appointed first deputy prime minister and chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Investment. On March 12, 1999, he was appointed Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan in Nurlan Balghymbayev's cabinet. From October 1999 to December 2000 he was CEO of the state-owned company KEGOC and then he was Deputy Prime Minister and from December 2001 to December 2002 he worked for a consulting company .

In March 2002, Shandossov founded the opposition Democratic Party Ak Schol together with Bulat Äbilow and Altynbek Särsenbajuly , of which he was co-chairman until March 2005. On January 8, 2003, he was appointed Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan. From June 2003 to July 2004 he was the chairman of the Agency for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies and the Protection of Competition. In June 2005 there was a dispute between the party leaders and the three co- leaders of the Aq Schol party, as a result of which Shandossow, Äbilow and Särsenbajuly founded a new party with the Naghys Aq Schol party. He has not held any government positions since then.

His grandfather was the Soviet politician Oras Shandosov .
