Ortaköy is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Çorum . The city is located about 40 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital Çorum and 6 km west of the course of the Çekerek , a tributary of the Yeşilırmak . To the north of the city lies the Karadağ ridge, the Hittite Šakaddunuwa .

The district is located in the southeast of the province. It is bordered by Amasya Province ( Göynücek County ) to the east, Yozgat Province ( Aydıncık County ) to the south, Alaca County to the west and Mecitözü County to the north . Part of the Buzluk Dağı runs in the south of the district .
In addition to the district town, the district consists of another municipality ( Belediye ), Aştavul with 2,512 inhabitants. In addition, 14 villages ( Köy ) with an average population of 229 residents complete the district. With 1,431 residents, Karahacip is the largest village in the district and the second largest in the province.
Attractions
About two kilometers south of the city of Ortaköy is the Hittite residence town of Šapinuwa , which has been excavated by a team from Ankara University since 1990 .
