Oskar von Diebitsch

Oskar Karl Ernst von Diebitsch (* July 18, 1823 in Celle ; † May 18, 1906 in Kunzendorf, Sprottau district ) was a Prussian major general and gentleman in Ober- and Niederkunzendorf.

Life

origin

Oskar was the son of Major General Friedrich von Diebitsch (1790–1872) and his wife Cäcilie, nee Jokisch-Scheuereck (1801–1873).

Military career

After attending grammar school in Celle and the Berlin cadet house , Diebitsch was transferred to the 12th Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army on August 9, 1840 as porter ensign. In early March in 1844 with the character as a second lieutenant he was transferred to the 8th Cuirassiers . In mid-December 1844 he became a surplus second lieutenant with a patent from March 2, 1844. As such, he worked from the end of September 1845 to mid-September 1850 in the 5th Cuirassier Regiment and then in the 6th Cuirassier Regiment (Emperor of Russia) . In October / November 1850 and from October 1851 to July 1853 Diebitsch was assigned to the veterinary school for training . He rose early August 1855 first lieutenant up, was 1858/60 as Eskadronführer heavy at the 6th Landwehr Rider Regiment commanded and was promoted in mid-April 1859 captain . On July 1, 1860 he was appointed chief of the 2nd squadron in Brandenburg an der Havel , which he led in the war against Denmark in 1864 .

Awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, IVth Class, Diebitsch was appointed director of the Military Horse Doctor School on November 17, 1866 under the position of his regiment à la suite and was promoted to major in this position at the end of September 1867 .

For the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Diebitsch was a regular staff officer in the 4th Reserve Uhlan Regiment from July 18, 1870 and took part in the sieges of Metz and Soissons . From December 22nd, 1870 to March 23rd, 1871 he served as President of the Evacuation Commission in Epernay . Awarded the Iron Cross, Second Class, Diebitsch returned to his peacetime position at the Military Roßarzt School at the end of March 1871. After his promotion to lieutenant colonel , he was appointed inspector of military veterinary services on April 12, 1873. On 18 January 1875 he rose to colonel and was on November 2, 1880 award of the character as a major general and board for disposition made. On the occasion of his 80th birthday, Kaiser Wilhelm II honored him on July 18, 1903 with the Order of the Crown, Second Class.

He died on May 18, 1906 as a legal knight of the Order of St. John in Kunzendorf and was buried four days later.

family

Diebitsch married Dorothea Countess zu Dohna-Schlodien (1837-1897) on May 18, 1863 in Kunzendorf . The son Hans (1865–1945) emerged from the marriage and married Clementine zu Dohna-Mallmitz (1873–1936) in 1898.
